About the Literacy Coalition of Broward
County
The Literacy Coalition of Broward
County is a group of educators, business leaders, literacy providers, volunteers and
advocates who work together to meet their mission of "advancing literacy efforts in
Broward County."
The Coalition works with both of the
major providers, Broward County Public Schools (Vocational, Adult and Community Education)
and the Broward County Librarys " Each One, Teach One" program, as well as
smaller faith-based and community-based literacy programs.
Coalition members work together to
raise the publics awareness of literacy issues, to recruit new adult students and
volunteer tutors, to network among providers, to bring the community together to meet
literacy needs, and to be a resource for literacy information and referral sources.
The Coalition supports services for
adult learners in basic literacy education, family literacy and workforce literacy.
The Literacy Coalition is a 501 (c)
(3) non-profit corporation funded by private donations,grants and fundraising efforts. The
organization was founded as an all volunteer group in 1992 and hired its first executive
director staff member in 1999.

National Association of Urban Literacy Coalitions ACE of Florida Florida Literacy
Coalition Success By Six Family Literacy Committee Coordinating Council of Broward County,
Education Stakeholders
Subcommittee and Chair,Adult Literacy Subcommittee
The Literacy Coalition is also a
proud participant with South Florida literacy coalitionsin Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe and
Palm Beach Counties in the Region V Adult Literacy Center operated by the Palm Beach
Literacy Coalition, and funded by the Florida Department of Education.
