BETA

PROGRAM: BETA (Broward Employment & Training Administration)

AGENCY: BETA (Broward Employment & Training Administration), Patty Sausser, Director of Programs 535-2300 x 3082 Fax: 535-2342

PROGRAM MISSION: BETA is the Administrative office in Broward County for federal funds provided through the Workforce Investment Act and the Welfare Transition Program ( formerly WAGES).

This agency’s focus is on employment and training. BETA works cooperatively with the Broward County Public Schools by referring participants to appropriate literacy programs. When someone enters their program applying for training master skills for a particular job (e.g. cook), the agency advises the applicant that this position requires a specific grade mastery level in reading, math, etc. If the applicant tests below that grade level, he/she would be referred to one of the Adult Community Education Centers for remedial classes. Some applicants attend the necessary classes to meet grade level equivalency while others decide to participate in training for a different job – one for which they already meet the grade level requirements.
