PROBATIONERS' EDUCATIONAL GROWTH (PEG) PROGRAM

PROGRAM: Probationers’ Educational Growth (PEG) Program
AGENCY:
Broward County Public Schools
Vocational, Adult and Community Education (VACE)

CONTACT:

Peter Lido, VACE Curriculum Specialist

Walter Schultz, PEG Counselor

PROGRAM MISSION:
The mission of the PEG program is to ensure that a full range of educational services, life skills programs, and workforce readiness opportunities are available for past offenders to encourage them to be contributing members of the community.

PROGRAM SCOPE:
PEG is a crime prevention program which focuses on education as a primary means of rehabilitation. Through education, past offenders increase their options and learn to make better choices for themselves and their families. Additional support in the form of counseling, job referral and assistance with plans for technical school or college is also provided.

Based on the results, the student is referred to appropriate, existing adult general education programs, such as Adult Basic Education (ABE), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), General Educational Development (GED), technical training, job training, and/or job placement.

FUNDING:
The VACE Probationer’s Educational Growth Program is funded by the Broward County Public Schools’ Adult and Family Literacy Grant from the Florida Department of Education.
