Broward County Public Schools use volunteer tutors to provide valuable
one-on-one assistance for students enrolled in adult literacy programs. Volunteers also
work with small groups to help students gain competence in reading, math, English and life
coping skills.
Through Broward School's Literacy Volunteers of
America (LVA) program, an affiliate of the national LVA organization, volunteers can
enroll in an 18-hour tutor training program to become certified LVA tutors. These tutors
are then placed in adult education classrooms through the county as a support to teachers
and students. Volunteer orientation and tutor training classes are held periodically
throughout the year in various locations. For more information, please e-mail Neeta Rancourt of Broward County
Public Schools or call Luanna Bassion or RuthAnn Martin
